Arbors are useful in framing views to beautiful areas beyond or their romantic appeal can be used as an architectural detail to anchor a garden. Typically twining ornamental vines such as clematis or hardy climbing roses use the arbor for their support, adding a soft grace and color to a setting.
Pergolas are our outdoor room ceilings. While open to the elements, they hold us in whether on decks, a dining patio or quiet sitting area. They provide shade, especially when combined with more structural vines such as Kentucky wisteria, whose flowers hang down like clusters of grapes in a French courtyard. Painted, stained, natural cedar or wrought iron - it does not matter. Each may be right depending upon your need and desire. |
