Retaining walls are built for many different reasons, but the most common is when you have a sudden change in grade or a steep bank. Steep slopes are often difficult to keep presentable and very cumbersome to mow. Therefore, as an alternative, many people choose to build a retaining wall to lessen the affect of the slope. They can also be constructed to create an elevated garden area. This type is usually built for aesthetic appeal, whereas the retaining walls for slopes are usually a necessity to continue the integrity of the slope.

Retaining walls on slopes have two-fold benefits. One is that there is no slope to care for anymore. Secondly, the new ground built up to the wall is easier to maintain and can actually have the appearance of lengthening your lawn. By building a retaining wall from the bottom of the slope to the top, you can extend the upper part of your lawn out to the retaining wall, which will give you more room on the top of the slope.

Retaining walls can open an entirely new facet of possibilities for landscaping. They can allow for planting a garden on the top of the slope or for additional lawn area. You can also plant new plant material within the rock to create a rock garden.

Because retaining walls are used to retain a slope, the construction is essential. Retaining walls should only be built by trained professionals because of the danger associated with a faulty retaining wall. There are definite guidelines to follow when creating a retaining wall.

LIED’S has certified landscape technicians who have had extensive training in landscape architecture. We are capable of building a variety of retaining walls with the same reliability for each one.

Retaining walls can be created using several different types of material depending on the style desired. LIED’S offers a range of different material such as timber, modular, stone, or outcrop.
